Solidarity Economy - 30 Years of Work on the Rainbow

"In March 1981, 30 women, men, and children occupied an empty house and former factory compound. They wanted affordable flats and a space for self-determined living and working. From the beginning, they were active in the neighborhood: They organized a cinema as well as cultural and children's activities for themselves and for people from the area. (...) Currently, 90 people take part in Regenbogenfabrik. They all think that all kinds of work have the same value: accounting, cleaning, taking care of the children, construction, cooking... However, in practice, this is more complicated: With the hostel Regenbogenfabrik can earn money, less with their social and cultural engagements..." (the author)
