40 years of opposition at Opel car plant in Bochum

1972, a few workers and revolutionaries at Opel in Bochum, Germany, established the GoG (Group of oppositional unionists). The GoG was active for over 40 years. With their radical way of involving themselves in the company, they inspired the resistant spirit of the staff in Bochum.

February 1, 2010 - Archibald Kuhnke talks about his life and his development as a member of the 1968 generation. For decades, he combined grassroots works council activity with many political and cultural initiatives and campaigns.

April 2009 - At the end of March Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge (commercial vehicles) wanted to sack 213 temporary agency workers. They had organized themselves while taking part in a job training program. On March 19 about 200 temporary agency workers visited a meeting of the works council (Betriebsrat), because the metal workers union IG Metall had announced that there was nothing it could do for the extension of their job contracts.
